New arrival today

was my new Biker jacket! I have been wanting to get one in ages and after very careful deliberations as to what sort and size and comparing costs, I managed to obtain this one from a certain well known Internet Site at a sale price! It fits very well and I absolutely love it! The leather is sheepskin Nappa and it is remarkably light, yet confortable and warm.

I have had an interest in historical costume and modern fashion that goes back a long way. Biker jackets are all the rage at the moment, especially with young girls and women. Celebrities are seen wearing them, but most of the ones seen on the High Street; however good they may be and look, are somewhat watered down for the current fashion market I feel. As a man's jacket, it is very much a classic item, something that you invest in to wear and will never ever go out of fashion - and that's how I see mine.

The first Biker jacket was made in the United States by Schott. Th first to feature a zip fastening was made in 1928 and their Perfecto design has continued to be produced by them to the present, and copied by many other makers since. This style of jacket features a belt and was made famous by Marlon Brando in the film The Wild One, made in 1953. So famous had his jacket become that that particular style is sometimes referred to as a Brando. My jacket is a variation of this design and has no belt and a slanted front opening. It is apparently called a Desprado by it's maker. I have seen this style many times before and I often thought in the past it to be a female design, but this is certainly not the case at all. I preferred not to have a belt which is why I chose this style and this one is more simplified yet still has the classic look that you expect to see. It's got plenty of useful pockets too that are bigger than you think they are! I LOVE it!
