54+18 stairs

Our building has three apartments. The ground level suite, whose residents occupy the first two floors, has it's own entrance. We share an entrance with the 3rd floor residents. Our apartment is on the 4th and 5th floors. The entry doors are beautiful original, wide, solid wood doors from the early 1900's when the neighbourhood was developed.

Right inside our entrance, is the first flight of 36 stairs. It is the longest and the most daunting. However, there is a reward at the top. A landing. Residents are "forced" to pause for a few moments to find their keys and open their doors. Door No.1 is for our 3rd floor neighbours and Door No.2 is for us. It leads to another flight of 18 stairs.

Of course, since we are in a two level apartment, there is another flight of 18 stairs if we want anything on the upper floor, such as a bed. But, who needs a bed?

You would think that after all these months that we would be fitter and the stairs would be easier. Well, some days are easier than others. Most days are just fine, but after a tough workout at the gym, I could do with about 54 fewer stairs!
