Lake Te Anau

Today's the day ......................... to drop anchor

A lovely day today - staying close to home and just enjoying being in Te Anau.

It was all very quiet and peaceful with people just going about their business. I watched a small seaplane at the end of a jetty being loaded up with supplies. Then it motored into the middle of the lake, gathered speed and took off effortlessly to fly over the mountains towards Milford Sound.

This is looking across to Mount Titiroa (1720m). The sunlight reflecting off the light-coloured Cretaceous granite from which this mountain is formed gives the appearance of snow in summer.

Tomorrow we are off on a cruise in Doubtful Sound. The weather forecast is good (although that can change very quickly apparently) - so let's hope that I have something good to show you then ..........................
