Birthday dinner
It was Carl's birthday on Wednesday. I was too tied up with work to meet him on the actual day, and going out for dinner isn't such a good idea mid-week anyway because of work the next day, so we agreed that the best arrangement was to go for a weekend dinner celebration. A mate of mine made a couple of eatery recommendations, one of which was Beckett's Hotel, which is situated in Cooldrinagh House in Leixlip (west of Dublin, just into Co. Kildare). Carl's grand uncle was the one and only Samuel Beckett (of Waiting for Godot fame), and Cooldrinagh House is where Sam's mother was born, so it was the prefect choice for a bit of posh birthday nosh.
Fortunately, Beckett's offer Friday and Saturday specials which consist of dinner and bed and breakfast for two for a quite reasonable fixed price, which meant we could both have a few bevvies without any worries about driving afterwards. It was all a great success. The food was fine, wine, dessert wine, drinks before and after: everything went swimmingly, helped along by friendly and efficient staff. We both enjoyed Carl's birthday celebration enormously.
