Mallards cruising for girls

The male mallards were looking their very best today, all dressed up and ready to impress the girls, but not a girl was to be seen! It was ever thus.

Mallards, handsome beasts that they are, are the ancestors of our domestic ducks. The name mallard comes from the old Norman French mallart which means, funnily enough, a wild male duck!
