Rainbow
In observance of Veteran's Day, A's school was closed today. However, Ben's and my employers were both operating as usual, and E's school was open. So, A attended a "Kids' Day Off" camp at our local community center and had a great day playing games, doing crafts, and swimming. The camp ran longer than her usual school day, so when I left work and picked up E, we had a mama-son date to get some dinner ingredients at the Asian grocery. Tonight I'm making Japanese noodles (or what we've affectionately termed ponyo noodles), and tom kha gai soup for tomorrow. Yum! We also picked up a mango, persimmon, and pomegranate, and are going to have a little exotic fruit tasting tonight after dinner!
Upon entering the grocery I had pointed out the ominous clouds to E, but still I was surprised by the strength of the pounding rain when we left. We were only in the store about 15 minutes, but the rain was pouring so hard that the parking lot was beginning to flood. We Oregonians are used to rain, but rain as a constant drizzle, not this kind of downpour. E and I both got soaked just getting to our car, and then made our way to the community center to collect A.
As we came back out of the community center with her, the rain had slowed to a sprinkle and we were treated to this gorgeous full rainbow. We all had to stand there gazing at it long enough to get pretty wet, and then after helping the kids into the car, I had to grab my camera and take a few shots. When I climbed back in the car, soaked and holding a wet camera, E observed, "Mama, I hope you didn't break your camera. Cameras are not supposed to get wet." Smart little guy.
