Tackling Malnutrition in the Philippines

Typhoon Haiyan left complete devastation in it's wake. Aside from the destruction of livelihoods and shelter, a critical problem the people of the Philippines now face is malnutrition.

The UN estimates that "some 1.5 million children are at risk of acute malnutrition and close to 800,000 pregnant and nursing mothers need nutritional help."

Typhoon Haiyan struck during the major rice harvesting season. It is estimated that one third of the crop was destroyed, along with other staples such as maize and sugarcane.

Livestock and poultry were also affected. The Island of Bantayan is known as the ‘the egg basket’ of the region. But with 6 million chickens killed in the storm, it will be a long process of recovery for the poultry industry.

Our feeding programme provides food and nutrients for children and other vulnerable groups at risk from malnutrition. £5 could help feed a child for a week. You can text CURE23 £5 (or alternative amount) to 70070 to help.
