Allerton Oak

Hard to get your head round the fact that this tree in Calderstones Park is thought to be around 1000 years old.
Apparently the local Court used to meet under it's branches.
It's not a very beautiful tree, having split in several places down it's trunk and needing to be propped up by poles.
Not bad for it's age though!
