Counting the years

This old oak tree has been a feature of our village for a long time. Unfortunately, last summer it blew down and various chain-saw equipped locals have gradually taken away firewood.

We are now left with the trunk which is so big that even a tractor cant move it.

It is on a footpath so I would like the village to get a tree carver to make something like a seat out of it.

Technophobe and I spent some time counting the rings on this branch this afternoon. This is much smaller than the main trunk but there are at least 200 rings. It would be interesting to measure the age of the main trunk.
