Cottesloe to Rottnest swim

This amazing athletes are embarking on a 19.7km swim to Rottnest Island - you can see it on the horizon.

Some do it solo, others in teams of two or four.
I finally decided on this photo as it shows the distance to be travelled, the support boats waiting for their charges and the paddlers also waiting to connect with their swimmer. The paddler accompanies the swimmer closely, all the way.

The 3 masted barquentine "STS Leeuwin" is moored 1.5ks from the shore.
