Punakaiki Pancake Rocks

An early rise this morning!! Alarm at 6am, up to grab a coffee before walking all of 50 yards to see the cows being milked. Most interesting to see and hear from T about the process. (R yes your Mother was out of a very comfortable bed at that hour....but sneaked back afterwards to catch up on the shut eye)!!!

A coffee with T & L before setting off for Greymouth. Another warm day, but a bit cooler than yesterday. We walked the Buller Gorge Swingbridge and the loop walk. The pictures of the height of the water in the 2010 floods were unbelievable and a bit reminiscent of the recent floods in the UK.

We headed out towards Westport and then took the coast road to Punakaiki to see the pancake rocks and blowholes. The sea was relatively calm and so the plumes of spray were smaller than we saw on our last visit.

The temptation to walk on the beach was too great to resist and despite the attention of the midgies, we appear to have escaped unscathed (so far)!!

Now settled in to the motel for one night and busy making plans for the next phase of the trip!!
