Remainders
When I was a child I can remember my mother buying biscuits from a shop where all the biscuits types were stored in individual tin cubes and they were sold loose and by the pound (lb!). There seemed to be dozens of types - digestive, custard creams, lemon puffs and garibaldi, to name but a few. When the tin was almost empty the remains were poured into an additional tin which stored a wide assortment of biscuits, many of them broken, known as 'remainders'. They were probably sold at a vastly reduced price and there was never any waste, today they would have been trashed.
In my garden I have a pot where I plant all the remainders of bulbs, odd plants and seedlings. It's a mish-mash of colour, has no particular style but always provides me with a surprise when everything comes into bloom. This is my remainder from last years bulb planting marathon and I think it looks just great!
