Blakely Battlefield, Alabama
Blakely was the site of the last battle in the Civil War. It was fought after, but on the same day as Gen. Robert E. Lee's surrender. It was also where James Andrew Costilow, my great-great-grandfather, fought and was captured on April 9, 1865. He was with the 1st Mississippi Light Artillery, Company I. He was taken to Ship Island, MS, where the Union Army had a prisoner of war camp, and from there to Vicksburg where he was paroled in May, 1865.
