TOPICS OF THE SOCIAL WORLD: (The Courier Mail, Friday 24 Nov 1933)
Hamish R. Craigie, who is returning to Suva after 9 months holiday in Scotland. is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. Wilson of Hawthorne.
The photo is therefore taken, c. 24 November 1933
My Scottish grandmother is holding the camera. The family is assembled in the backyard of the family home in Hawthorne, Brisbane, Qld, Australia and two of her family of four children (two absent) with their family visitor, Hamish who was the Government printer in Suva, Fiji.
My aunt on the left hand side of the line is standing alongside Hamish, who was a long time family friend. Hamish had been ill with a tropical illness and spent a lengthy recuperation in Scotland.
The day is likely hot and Brisbane is notorious for thunderstorms in November. My grandfather always wore a suit. Hamish has instructions at a guess to stay comfortably warm to protect his health.
UPDATE: dfb24 has commented she blipped a camera that belonged to her father-in-law and that has a pride of place as display in her home: please see link here to Kodak camera
