Rumbling Bridge[s]
Another BOGOF* entry today.
Some more 'olds' practicing this afternoon. Gentle drive out of the Wee County (careful not to go over, or under, 40mph anywhere) and over into the hyphenated pleasures of Kinross-shire, stopping off at an old Milk Bar for two mugs of tea and a slice of cake served on a paper plate. We weren't tempted by the 'wide range of gift cards for all occasions' in the next door shop that the seasoned olds were browsing unenthusiastically, or by the baffling original paint-by-numbers artworks on the walls optimistically priced with felt-tip penned labels. Instead we headed over here to the village of Rumbling Bridge which, coincidentally, is home to an impressive bridge that rumbles.
The one that currently carries the road was built a hundred years or so after the original, smaller and scarier, 1713 version below. Unless you stop and head down the footpaths most people would pass over here unaware of the older structure below. Or the 120 feet drop to the water cascading wildly down the gorge. Samantha took one tentative look out of that gap in the centre of the bridge wall at the top of the shot and scurried back to the car to read her Sunday paper. She wins today's round of being old with that one there. Pussy.
There seems to be lots of interesting bits and pieces around about this spot here and still images certainly don't do the constant roar of the water and sense of power and scale any justice so will definitely head back here again. Probably even pack a tartan Thermos flask of tea and bring a picnic rug or something.
