Burghead
Off to the North East for a wee break.
It's good to have left the rain behind but boy is it cold!
Burghead is a small town in Moray situated 8 miles west of Elgin. The town is mainly built on a peninsula that projects into the Moray Firth surrounded it on 3 sides by the sea. Built between 1805 and 1809 more than half of the site of an important Pictish hill fort being destroyed in the process. A chambered well of some considerable antiquity was discovered in 1809 and walls and a roof were later added to help preserve it. Each year on 11 January a fire festival dating back to the 17th century and known as the Burning of the Clavie takes place in the town.
