At the End of the Street

Our street has been closed of for a while now and should reopen at the beginning of March. So all we can hear are these big trucks going by taking away dirt and bring in shingle. This all because Christchurch's horizontal infrastructure was significantly damaged by the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes. As a result, a strategic network repair programme was developed, jointly funded by the Government and Christchurch City Council, with the work programme managed by SCIRT (The Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team).

Almost $40 million is being spent each month repairing Christchurch's infrastructure. To date, 38.4km of wastewater, 18.6km of water and 1.4km of stormwater pipes have been replaced and 91,990 sqm of road pavement. So as you can see it is a very big task ahead of them!

Yesterdays storm brought Tornadoes to the north of Christchurch and severely damaging four homes. It must have been so frightening to see and experience it.

I just walked around the block today and took a few shots. My headache was a little bit better this morning but as the day goes on it becomes worse again. Hopeful I well get back to of you who have comment on my journal if not today then tomorrow.
