Doll in tradiional dress

This dress was worn by rich farmer wives in a Northern province in Holland, the province Friesland. My parents are from Friesland (neither farmers nor rich, alas...). We still speak Frisian amongst ourselves. Years ago my mother got into making these kind of dresses for dolls, I believe she made them for many of my aunts and of course also for my sister and me. The one on the left, in purple, is made by my mother.

When my mother had to move to a care facility she got rid of her stock of materials still lying around. I gave them to my best friend and she made a look-alike, the one on the right. I believe she did a great job!
