Bukit Bangkirai

We woke up early on Sunday morning after getting a long night's sleep. After breakfast, we went on a jungle trek through part of the Orangutan Sanctuary. The entire area has been replanted since the early 2000s, and it's impressive to see how thick the areas have become! We were thrilled that we got to see the elusive mouse deer on our trek - our guide said we were the only ones he has taken out that have seen them.

After the trek, we packed up and ventured out with Ozzy to the Bukit Bangkirai - the Canopy Bridge. It's actually 4 canopy bridges, connected by a maze of platforms, each slightly scarrier than the next. It was a lot of fun to be up high in the trees. We also spotted - and heard - the Hornbill Bird, which is a symbol of the local native people.

Our trip to Samboja/Balikpapan was a great success. Travel was smooth, the sights were excellent, and it was a restful and peaceful weekend!
