This statue of Sir Tom Finney is outside the Deepdale Staduim, home of Preston North End. It recreates the famous picture taken in 1956 at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge called "The Splash".
Tom Finney died on the 14th February, hence all the tributes around the statue. Widely accepted as one of the greatest players of his age, he played for Preston from 1946 to 1960. He represented England, earning 76 caps and scoring 30 goals. I met him once when he presented me with my Nursing certificate, at which time I didn't really appreciate his legendary status!
