Bounder of adventure.

Good day for a road trip. The sea at Lopness is still a bit keen so I gave it a wide berth. I wanted to check out the storm damage to the footpath to Doun Helzie. The rough road had certainly come in for a battering so I was, once again, thankful to the Skoda's rally heritage. I took all the big stones out of the way as I went along. Once at the top of the Stove links, parked up and strolled toward the Sanday Soond. The island ranger was quite right when he said that the usual approach has been completely eroded away. I might have got away with scrambling down the precipice, but back up again with an incoming tide snapping at my heels was potentially hazardous. Not the type of thing that I should get up to when I'm on my own, without a phone and with not a living soul within earshot of my pitiful shrieking.

I drove to Loth instead for some views of the pier and the Eday Soond (pictured). Dumped 'Hippocrates' again and set off for the Hill Street Hooses on foot. The paths are still waterlogged so after making my way back past Stove, I made a beeline for the road and hitched back over Spurness. Alas! There was not a single car on the road. There rarely is other than half an hour before and after a ferry and there wasn't one due for hours. Now my feet ache.
