Beginning To See The Light
It's been another really busy, but fun, weekend.
My friend Mel came down from Cumbria and we packed a lot into a couple of days...
Yesterday we went for a Wirral walk, then went into town for a meal at MelloMello and on to The Brink for some cake before seeing some really interesting theatre at The Unity. 'The Tryals of Anne Bonny' is a one-woman play, complete with some great aerial theatre, telling the true story of one of the 18th century's most notable female pirates and it was quite a feat of athleticism and memory. I doubt I could remember an hour's worth of monologue whilst flinging myself around on a rope! Well, ok, I know I couldn't!
Afterwards, we popped back to MelloMello for a nightcap - and thence, home to bed.
Today we went for a cruise on the Mersey Ferry and visited the Museum of Liverpool. We also went to the Open Eye photography gallery (where I took this shot of Mel) to see an astonishing exhibition by Sicilian photographer Letizia Battaglia called Breaking The Code Of Silence. The photographs detail the impact the Mafia had in Palermo in the 70s and 80s and are shocking, distressing and also often hauntingly beautiful.
After that, we went on to the Bluecoat to see The Soft Estate exhibition - closely related to the Edgelands theme which I wrote about a couple of weeks ago - and The Walker for a look at some wonderful turned wooden sculptures by Steve Howlett as well as another chance to see the current Hockney exhibition. We also stopped for a much needed, and delicious, Lebanese lunch at Bakchich. On a less happy note, we were unsuccessful in finding any lime green or purple laces for Mel's new boots...
Over the last week the days seem to have become noticeably lighter, especially in the evenings, and I'm loving the return of the light!
I've got really behind in looking at your journals over the weekend but am hoping to catch up over the next couple of days... Have a good week everyone! Xx
