I think this is it!

During my research for a dog which will become my companion when I retire later in the year, I have finally decided, I think! This is a Basset Fauve de Bretagne and after lots of reading it seems this is my ideal dog.
"Cheerful little dogs who can have minds of their own! They are intelligent, friendly, brave and very active. This breed gets along well with children and other household pets. Not really guard dogs, they will however announce strangers at the door. They are unhappy if kept confined for too long, like a long walk each day and love to have busy, full lives and to be involved with all family matters."
Sounds perfect to me. All I have to do now is source a breeder!
