Another day in June - another summer Fair.

This time it was the Eccles town twinning celebrations with Narbonne (France).

It was pitiful, the weather, the publicity, the attendance, eveything.

Somebody handed me a brochure encouraging me to visit Narbonne - hot weather, sandy beaches, good food, good looking people.

Very different to Eccles, I commented to our twin town representative. He diplomatically made no comment as the rain dripped of his Gaelic nose against the backdrop of the chemical works - next to to the motorway and graffitied, security shuttered shops.

How did Eccles get twinned with Narbonne? It's like Pete Doherty landing Kate Moss!

Anyway, Fay enjoyed the Victorian Fair rides. She was the only one...
