Winter survival tips

As I emerge in to the spring looking pale and flabby after an all too long winter, I marvel at how my delphiniums have never looked perkier, the palm tree weirdly loves sitting in pool of water every day and my amelanchier lamarckii is covered in buds and looks positively lovely. And somehow these lovely little guys appeared from nowhere and look like they're just loving grey skies. There must be winter survival tips we can learn from plants when they survive looking this good!
