Uprooted old olives

Today was wet and windy again so I went to La Rochelle to pick up some tiles I had ordered.
Outside Leroy Merlin there was a row of ancient olive trees for sale, some with black shiny olives still attached, their roots and tops severely pruned.
We don't see many old olive trees growing this area and I felt so sorry for these as I could almost see them shivering in the howling wind.
