I was hoping to go to St Albans today to try to shoot a kingfisher for my mother but the weather was rubbish. I went out between the showers in the hope of togging bugs. I got a midge but that was it.

I resorted to lifting stones as I used to do with my grandchildren and found this lovely little worm. I love how their skin is iridescent. My father was very fond of Spike, so even though 'belly' is a word that we weren't allowed to use I'm sure Spike is forgiven.
