Telephone Exchange
In my tireless quest to find the ugliest building in Stevenage, I was led inexorably towards Bedwell and the Headquarters of Ugliness. This monster was thrown up in the 1960's to house all the wiring, switchboards and operators that were needed in those days to run a successful telephone exchange. "Which number do you require?" asked the polite and well spoken lassie as she juggled with plugs and wires to get you your chosen destination. These lovely girls have been replaced with digital switchboards that endlessly request you to "press 1 to renew your insurance cover". "You will now be given seven options". (None of them to speak to a fellow human being). Sometimes you wish for the reverse of progress. However. This building is so unlovely that it casts no shadow as the sun refuses to shine on it.
