Kobe City Emblem as seen on a drain

The port of Kobe was originally called "Ogi (fan) Port,” because two ports "Hyogo” and "Kobe” are shaped like two fans placed side by side. Kobe was written as "Kaube” in old kana orthography. The shapes of the port and the first letter of Ka were designed into the emblem. It was established in May 1907.
