Put it in the Kitty

I've got to wait in for a parcel delivery today, so it has to be an indoor blip I'm afraid. I hate carrying around rather heavy amounts of loose change and so I tend to come home and put it in my Kitty bank - saving for a rainy day (and we've had lots of them lately!). Putting money in the kitty is a strange phrase isn't it, but it doesn't have anything to do with cats. In fact it comes from an archaic, seldom-used word meaning 'register' or 'safe-keeping container' or any other place where small amounts of money are stored. So that's where my loose change ends up - with interest rates for savers so poor at the moment it'll probably be staying there for a while longer too!
