Rainbow over the Sound of Mull
The weather this morning was even worse than yesterday. It was universally grey, with low cloud and rain, although there was new snow above 350 metres. We gave up any idea of a hill day, as the forecast was poor, and headed for Oban to go to Kerrera instead. We were held up by resurfacing work at Taynuilt, and didn't have time to catch the 10:35 ferry, so had a leisurely morning coffee before getting the 12:35 over to the island. By now, the weather had brightened up (by the coast at least), with sunshine between the showers giving rainbows and spectacular lighting. We walked anti-clockwise round the south of the island, and near the high point of the road saw this interesting rainbow. We had more sun and showers round the rest of the way and can recommend a visit to the ruins of Gylen Castle. We then went to the high point of the island, another Marilyn, before getting the ferry back to the mainland. Looks like tomorrow will be showery again, so little chance of a good winter hillwalk. But you never know. Yesterday I meant to say that we saw 2 sets of frogspawn, which is really early. One was at 280 metres, so is unlikely to survive if there are any frosts.
