Antibes Day 7. Old Town corner
We'd spotted a restaurant yesterday which we hadn't seen before, an earmarked it as an ideal spot for breakfast today. Unfortunately, when we got there the shutters were down and a sign announced that they were closed from today for two weeks. It's a real shame, because it really looked like a perfect spot. Disappointed, we once again went on a wander around the narrow streets of the Old Town, which is always a pleasant exerience. Sunday lunch seems to be a big things with the Antibes locals, as everywhere was busier than we'd seen before, and we were turned away from another place we fancied the look of because they were fully booked (by this stage, which began as going out for 'breakfast' had turned into a search for somewhere to have lunch. The general level of busy-ness explains why we ended up eating in a little Chinese restaurant near the harbour. It was pleasant enough.
The Grand Plan to go to Monte Carlo was beginning to fall apart by this time, and we were feeling a bit knackered anyway, so we quickly decided that a siesta was called for. So today turned into a lazy day indeed. One thing we had promised ourselves was that we'd return to La Forge for our final meal in Antibes, the only time we've eaten in the same place more than once. We'd spotted last time that one of the set menus (37 euro this time) had snails on the menu, so we went for that. We were very, very surprised to be presented with a snail pie, topped with gorgeous pastry and served up with great imagination. A leisurely meal had us going on after our meal for a few drinks in a bar or two, so it was after midnight by the time we got back to the apartment.
