Timepiece

My husband bought me this garden clock for our 31st anniversary last week.

Usually when he buys me a present he gets something that I've either talked about or mentioned in passing during the preceding few weeks. However, I have never mentioned a garden clock because it's never occurred to me to want one. It was just as well, therefore, that he wasn't with me when I opened this gift because I know my face was wearing a "Why has he bought me a clock?" expression.

Now, I know that milestone anniversaries have 'traditional' themes so I knew why, on our 20th, 25th and 30th anniversaries, he had bought me a piece of china, silver jewellery and a pearl brooch respectively. What I didn't know was that the intervening anniversaries have been allocated 'modern' themes and that every year since our 20th he has actually bought me a gift to match that theme. The modern theme for 31st anniversaries is 'timepieces', hence the clock.

It's been hanging off the pergola for a week now and I'm still not sure that I want a clock in the garden. I'm hoping it will grow on me. Time will tell.....
