Marie Louise Gardens...

I'm a great fan of trees. In any season they are things of beauty. In flower in spring, full leaf in summer, gorgeous colour in autumn or, like these, resting and bare branched against a late winter, blue sky. These trees are in the Marie Louise Gardens on Palatine Road in West Didsbury, Manchester. The were created to commemorate the only child, Marie Louise, of a wealthy, Victorian cotton family, the Silkenstadts. She died very young of Peritonitis...
