Walking through history

Living in Edinburgh you are constantly walking through (sometimes walking past) history. This distinctly undistinguished looking spot is in Princes Street Gardens below the castle and is a bridge over the last few hundred metres of railway into Waverley Station. In the 12th century this ground was used for hawking, hunting and tournaments. In the 15th century it was flooded to form the Nor' Loch to improve the city's defences and then the loch was drained in the late 18th century when the New Town was being built. The gardens were made in the early 19th century.
