My beautiful sprue with all the wax sculptures

The method used at Valimoinstituutti is called lost wax casting. This image shows you the sprue, which is a wooden bar that holds my wax sculptures in place before they are cast into a mold. The mold material is made using gypsum plaster as a binder for sand, and silica flour, I think. The dry ingredients are mixed with water and poured into a container surrounding the sprued up model.
Today I managed to finish attaching my sculptures onto the sprue, made the container and the mold. Now the mold will be placed into a high-temperature oven for a long period of time for all the wood, plastic and wax to melt and burn away leaving hollow shapes for the bronze to enter at the casting stage. That will take place two weeks from now, and I will report about that part as well in due course :)
