Only towers remain
These are at Reculver on the Kent coast not far from Herne Bay. They are the remains of a church that was abandoned due to coastal erosion as was the village close by. A new church was built further inland in the early part of the 19th century.
At one time Reculver was a prosperous port but both the silting of channel to it and the erosion led to its demise.
Now it has caravan sites, is a site of special scientific interest and quite a destination for visitors to walk and cycle along the excellent paths that follow the coast.
