At Ross: Little Bird....x

Beau loves the bird sales. Mostly he likes to tread the auctioneers boards above the stalls above the crowds.

Today. we sold a trio of French Marans, some little cross sussex bantams and a pretend broody (that is one that sits briefly on eggs but not enough to raise the eggs to hatch)

The chickens didn't take kindly to being taken from their hen houses this morning. It was a last minute decision to sell them. Normally you would take a bird from the perch on the night time before the sale. The darkness creates a disorientating calm for them that continues to which ever pen they end up in. Needless to say, we needed a few less hens, so after a quick family meeting we penned up.

Its important to say, that the children have their favourite hens and cockerels. French Maran, Darth Maul was bundled into the pen under protest whilst Mrs Booty, a booted bantam was allowed a reprieve.

We didn't stay to buy replacements. The spring sunshine beckoned a busy day outside the market.....x
