Flagrant Fragrance
If you have never caught the scent of a daphne, I am sorry. You won't find it here despite my best efforts. It is sweet with just a bit of lemon and it carries on light breezes but can still be whiffed in a stiff late winter wind. The deep rosy buds have been hinting at the arrival of the flowers for weeks but in just the last few days have begun to open enough to ensure a sweet welcome to all my visitors both day and night. This isn't a night blooming jasmine or a trumpet flower that will withhold its gift because of the time of day. Daphne is generous and will lend her scent to anyone who wanders by. I am lucky to have a largish specimen 3 feet tall and 4 feet across near my front door. Stop by and have a whiff if you are in the area. She will be blooming for another month or more
