Hello home

So, with only 2 albeit very large rooms downstairs, we are adding an 'orangery' onto the house! However this is proving to be a bit if a planning nightmare.

Is this the front or the back of our new home?

The builder, Mr Bennett came today and described this as the front; the 'principle' elevation which fronts on to the highway. However, our 'front' door is otherwise at the 'back'! Brenda, our new, lovely neighbour was quick to point this out to Mr Bennett, but I'm not sure that Amber Valley Borough Council would agree. At £180 for a pre-app site visit, £172 per application, and a redirect to the webpages which outline all costs on their answerphone message, the point of planning permission seems to be less about aesthetics and more about mathematics!

As a quick postscript, Mr Bennett also measured up for Danielle's room; it looks as though the new window may prove to be the costliest addition to the room!!!
