Tree carving

Enjoyed the company of my youngest son on a walk up Rivey Hill today. A huge tree has fallen across the path and is strong enough to climb on albeit rather high up if he had fallen off.

As you can see from the state of the trunk the tree was very old and has had lots of names carved into it's trunk over the years.

It's a bit of a sad sight, but also a worry that this huge tree had such shallow roots. The wood is very creaky indeed when it's windy.
