Our Brilliant NHS

I get very cross about criticism of the NHS. Firstly, my experience (like this morning) is that it is efficient, open access and free. Reading Christopher Isherwood's diaries I was very struck when, fatally ill with prostate cancer, he's interviewed by his doctor; whose most interested in getting his health insurance filled out, rather than his actual welfare. Secondly, the treatment of our junior doctors remains immoral. The tragic death of a young doctor driving home from work, probably due to exhaustion, is an inditement of a bureaucratic culture bred by continual change and tinkering by politicians.
