Swan Lake
Stopped by the road into Dorchester today where there were at least fifty swans in the water of the flooded river floodplain either gliding magnificently or standing in the lush grass looking for food. Tried to photograph a beautiful pair near the road but they weren't obliging in their ducking and diving as their heads disappeared below the surface.
I always like the analogy of swans gliding across the surface gracefully whilst furiously paddling underneath to keep going . So true! They are often there in the Spring then disappear.
" But now they drift upon the still water,
Mysterious, beautiful;
Among what rushes will they build,
By what lakes edge or pool
Delight men's eyes when I awake some day
To find they have flown away?" W. B. Yeats
