The Archèd Portal of Mystery
At the top end of the bicycle path leading past the Tesco at Canonmills there lies a wide, unnavigable dark tunnel. Surrounding this at a distance of roughly thirty feet is an utterly inneffective little rust-brown fence whose mild steel fenceposts are so amazingly knackered that they remain standing only because plants are growing beneath them.
The northerly snout of part of the Platform 19 tunnel system. It would be great if it was re-opened as has been proposed many times before as long as all the jakeys and neds could be regularly purged. Seeing as the usual reason given for the lack of underground public transport system in Edinburgh is the inconvenient igneous batholith on which is rests we should rejoice and travel through those few tunnels we have.
