A Little Pic Me Up

Soul Light

So tonight I attended a photography group "session" at Old School House in Aberdeen, ran by a guy called Will. I refer to it as a session as opposed to a lecture or class because it was quite laid back and informal, but none the less very interesting and informative. We were told about exposure and how to determine when a picture is properly exposed and then he spoke about shutter speed and how to achieve different effects based on the speed of the shutter. Then we tried to capture motion blur by taking a photograph of a bouncing tennis and squash ball. Then secondly we ramped up the speed and tried to capture it in still motion. It was a bit tough due to the low light but we got there in the end. All in all a very positive experience and I definitely will be attending the next session.

On the way home, I finally did something I've been wanting to for a while. I've walked past the tree outside Soul Bar so many times and wished I could take a photo of it with my camera and today I finally got the chance. I purposely made it out of focus as I was going for the whole bokeh effect. I know it's probably a bit cliche and something every newbie wants to do, but I did it anyway and was quite pleased with the results.

My next aim is to capture some light trails from a bus/car in Aberdeen.
