Encounter of the weird kind

My wife pointed this Arachnid out to me last night. I was quite surprised to find it at the same place today. Looks like it is making itself at home on the flower. It does bear some resemblance to a hermit crab.

Aha, it's a two-spine spider, Poecilopachys australasia, hailing from Australia. It arrived in New Zealand in the early 70s. And it's a she. The male lacks the distinctive spine. (Thanks to my wife, that peerless fount of knowledge 8-) )
