Time is precious

This watch was bought 3 years ago today, that means many things to me, it mean that it is 3 years and one day since my mum was brought out of an induced coma after suffering 2 bleeds from brain hemorrhages. It was a time of great relief and anguish for everyone involved, dad travelled hundereds of miles a day to visit while still running a business, I was fortunate enough to be given an inexplicable amount of time off work and my brother was given all the shift swaps and time off he needed too. It is 3 years on and I am still touched and greatful for the help and support we got from friends and colleages. I haven't mentioned family yet, I may not have mentioned them at the time either, obvioulsy your support was fantastic and greatly appreciated. I'm not great at expressing myself, I perhaps never will be, but I hope that somewhere in my facial expressions or the look in my eye, you can see what it means to me when kindess is thrust upon me.

Wandering around the city centre waiting for visiting hours to come gives you lots of weird time, it was different on this day 2011 because there was a new worry, the first battle had been won and now we had to listen to the doctors and plan for the future. In the middle of all these thoughts, a watch caught my eye in the Argyle Arcade, it seemed perfect, the watch was beautiful and you culd see thr inner workings, testament to how exceedingly clever man is. Although this would have been machine cut then hand assembled, the fact remains that men would make these from scratch many years ago. It was clever people like this who eveolved and made machines and electronics that saved my mums life. That and the first aider at the restaurant.

It reminds me of karma also, when the paramedics turned up, they thought their equpiment was broken because it wouldn't shock mum. The defibrillator was right in the end as there was the faintest of heartbeats keeping this former nurse alive, this is where years of good work and fund raising by my dad come in. He raised money for our local ambulance station to buy a defibrillator when they were new, the ambulance station got it with his help and now, by some incredible force of nature, it was helping him through saving his wife.

Mun is still doing fantastically now, looking back, I should have never doubted that she would be ok, theres no way a minor bit of death would hold her back. If you are reading this mum, Happy Birthday for 3 weeks ago, I hope you had a nice holiday. I tried calling but you never pick up.

You may ask why I would spend so much money on a watch instead of donate it to charty, I wonder myself. I have significantly increased my charitable donations as a result of all this but yet I could do more. Sometimes it feels like I risk the wrath of karma by adding to the walth of Swiss watch makers rather than helping fund medical research. Thats a moral dilema I will deal with as long as there are people dying who could be saved. I will have a real story to pass down to my children with this watch, when I contribute to charities and raise funds for good causes, when real discoveries and breakthroughs are made, I can show my children how important is is to help others in need and show them why.
