Semlor - Fat Tuesday buns
Shrove Tuesday is fettisdag in Swedish - the direct translation is "fat Tuesday". It was the day when you ate good things in preparation for 6 weeks of fasting. These buns are the Swedish way of preparing for lent.
The top of the bun is cut off and kept. The insides are scooped out, mixed with a little milk and some almond paste and then placed back in the bun. Put a dollop of cream on top of the mixture and replace the top of the bun. Sprinkle with icing sugar. Eat!
Delicious with a cup of coffee! You can also eat them the old-fashioned way, in a bowl with some warm milk.
After that I'm sure some of you would like a recipe!
