Burning crosses

This is one of those images that really does need explaining. Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, so this evening I burnt some of last year's palm crosses to make ash to use tomorrow. I shall mix the ash with a little water and make the sign of the cross on people's foreheads as a sign of penitence. It is very moving, and I take pride in making nice big, clear crosses so adding just the right amount of water is critical!
