Blake's Last Stand
Upon receiving news that the summons to Tarnmouth had come from Blake's younger sister, Charlotte, I felt surprise but at the same time a knowing tension within me seemed closer to release. Charlotte informed me that Blake had disappeared in Tarnmouth two months before and no trace remained beyond his meager effects, his journal, watercolour supplies and a small pocketwatch handed down from his grandfather. Charlotte further told me that these items, the last traces of her brother, had been found by a local unceremoniously dumped at the foot of a cenotaph. I visited the site at once and my curiosity and trepidation reached a new pitch of excitement.
